One of the major risks of developing heart disease or experiencing a stroke is having high-cholesterol, but a diet of healthy foods can keep cholesterol levels down. Heart disease occurs when the arteries that pump blood to the heart are blocked and it’s too difficult for the blood to get to the heart. The blockage of arteries is a result of a plaque build-up along the walls from too much cholesterol. There are two major types of cholesterol that a doctor will test for; LDL, low density lipoproteins, and HDL high density lipoproteins.
