How many health benefits that can be given by a tomato? Tomatoes have a benefit to reduce and prevent some life-threatening diseases.

First, tomatoes contain four major carutenoid: alpha carotene, beta carotene, lutein and lycopene. All this carutenoid has its own health benefits and also has great health benefits when they are all combined. Red pigment in tomatoes is lycopene. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant and is very useful to neutralize free radicals damage cells in the body. Lycopene is also very beneficial for heart health, prostate health and the health of the pancreas.

A study showed that people who consumed ten tomatoes per week, then reduce the chance of developing prostate cancer for forty-five per cent. Another study showed that people who consume more than seven raw tomatoes may reduce the risk of stomach and colon cancers by sixty percent.

Other benefits of the tomato is to prevent lung cancer. Studies conducted recently show that tomatoes contain two important compounds, coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid. Both these compounds block carcinogen found in tobacco. When confronted carcinogen, our bodies will be protected from cigarette smoke that can prevent the development of lung cancer.

And finally, last but not least, tomatoes are rich in potassium, something that many of us need to daily diet. Clearly, with all the health benefits of tomatoes given, then we should eat tomatoes in everyday life.
